IN THIS ISSUE:

LETTER FROM THE CEO

No matter how old I get, I still feel the familiar anticipation of the “new school year” as the summer closes and fall begins. SPLC’s ‘new year’ ahead is exciting to contemplate, with new and improved resources, enhanced programs and member connections underway, the 2020 Summit program coming together, and a fantastic schedule of webinars and events ahead!

Now is also the season for “all hands on deck” for climate change prevention, mitigation and adaptation. The Global Commission on Adaptation ’s new report A Global Call for Leadership on Climate Resilience calls us all to take action on climate adaptation strategies as well as climate change prevention efforts. The top takeaway — a $1.8 trillion global investment between 2020 and 2030 in five key areas of resiliency could generate $7.1 trillion in total net financial benefits, as well as countless direct benefits to people and ecosystems.

SPLC's members, deploying the power of procurement in service of sustainability, have a critical role to play in moving climate change action from the 'special projects' column to integration in core business processes. In this new year, and every year thereafter, I am confident our members will make positive and lasting contributions to this most critical issue of our time.

Consistent with this, our 2020 Summit theme is “Convergence” -- focusing on understanding how our combined purchasing strategies can have an exponential impact in key areas, such as climate, or women’s empowerment, that yield a cascade of economic, social and environmental benefits. Register early to get our best 2020 Summit rates and ensure you are part of this critical conversation.

We look forward to engaging throughout the coming year and at the 2020 Summit!

In the interest of spreading our message about the critical role purchasing can play in developing truly sustainable business, we have shared much of our content on our public website (though there is always much more available in our SPLC Member Community).

Starting this fall, we are making a small change in that practice - ensuring that highlights and key insights from our work are available to all as learning resources, but making full SPLC publications and details available to SPLC members only in recognition of their invaluable support. Detailed research findings and guidance will be available only through our high-traffic SPLC Community website.

Complete the 2019 SPLC Member Satisfaction Survey
You Could Win a FREE 2020 Summit Pass!

Each year, the SPLC invites members to provide feedback on the value of their SPLC membership, and what suggestions they have for expanding and improving on our current work. While the SPLC staff continuously gathers member feedback via direct member interactions, the Annual SPLC Member Satisfaction Survey is the most formal way we have to gather comprehensive data from our member community. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey to provide invaluable feedback to the SPLC staff and Board of Directors.

As an incentive to complete the 15-minute survey, participants can opt to enter for a chance to win a FREE 2020 Summit pass (over $1,000 in value)! Don’t forget – we welcome survey responses from multiple representatives from each organization, so share the link and encourage your colleagues to participate.
