Advancing Sustainable Procurement through Government Policy

3:00 PM  -  4:00 PM, Wednesday, May 25, 2016  |  Room 6

An increasing number of government entities at the local, state and federal level are deepening commitments to sustainable procurement through the development of policies as a key strategy to advance their efforts to tackle climate change, advance safer chemicals, create resilient supply chains, elevate the value of high road business practices, and achieve broader goals of strengthening the economy while advancing sustainability. Examples include executive orders, city ordinances, regional sustainable purchasing agreements, and the creation of new standards and certifications to better identify sustainable products and services. In this panel we will share some of the successful models already implemented, as well as examine new initiatives developing in places at the national and local, state and regional levels like Los Angeles, Minnesota, Washington, DC, the Northwest, New England, and elsewhere.
