Alfonzye Chisholm

Director, Office of Sustainability

Alfonzye “Chip” Chisholm is Director, Office of Sustainability at Howard University in Washington, DC.   When the University decided to fully embrace a new direction in sustainability,  they asked  Chip to help lead the way.  He is a registered Architect and LEED certified professional whose interest in renewable energy begin well before the term “sustainability” was coined. 

In private practice he designed many solar homes and a new manufacturing facility for one to the first solar panel companies on the east coast.  Since coming to Howard University he has helped the University implement many sustainability initiatives and energy saving projects.  He is proud that his work has resulted in a greener university in the face of  a challenging financial environment.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and on the RecycleMania National Board of Directors.  His current focus is reducing the University’s use of fossil fuels through the use of “sustainable energy ” like solar voltaic and solar thermal technology.
