Ian Hemptonstall


Ian Heptonstall is a Director of Action Sustainability, the UK’s leading experts on sustainable supply chain management. His company has been at the forefront of many leading examples of professional practice, including the Supply Chain Sustainability School, BS8903 and the new International  Standard for Sustainable Procurement –  ISO 20400.  As Director of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, Ian has led the development of this innovative collaboration of the UK’s largest construction clients and contractors to the extent that it now has over 12,000 supply chain managers and sustainability professionals learning through the online portal and has recently also launched in Australia.  Prior to co-founding Action Sustainability in 2006, Ian was the owner of Business to Business Ltd., which he founded in 1991 to help large organisations more effectively engage with small and diverse enterprises. Ian was recognised for his outstanding achievements in this area and for the contribution this has made to “Life in London” by the Mayor of London in 2008. As an expert in how supply chains interact Ian has been asked to present to both the EU and UK Parliamentary committees. Ian currently sits on the City of London’s Social Value procurement panel and Chair’s the UK construction industry’s Fairness, Inclusion and Respect Leadership Group.
