Come learn how a bottom-up collaboration between public and private sector organizations is rapidly embedding circular economy principles into hundreds of procurements across a number of European countries. The Green Deal Program, first initiated in 2014 by the Dutch, has created more than $100 million Euros in sustainable economic development by leveraging procurement to turn waste streams into cost savings, economic growth, environmental impact reduction, and green jobs. Today, cities and countries across Europe are adopting the highly successful Green Deal approach.
Participants in this workshop will learn how a Green Deal program works and the keys to establishing similar programs in new regions. Cuno Van Geet helped develop and implement the original Green Deal Program in the Netherlands and Mervyn Jones led the implementation of a Green Deal program in the UK. They are also active in a European interest group that is leading pan-European collaboration on scaling-up this very inexpensive yet highly successful approach to sustainable procurement.
