Case Study Spotlight: Moody's Responsible Sourcing - a Journey to Emissions Reduction

Blog,
Climate change is a major challenge that demands action from all of us. While Moody’s has a limited direct environmental impact, we recognize the importance of modeling proactive corporate responsibility and showcasing best practices in climate change mitigation. Our commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across our operations and value chain by 2040—ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s benchmark—demonstrates our unwavering determination.

In alignment with this global objective, we have developed a Responsible Sourcing program with the goal of having 60% of our suppliers by spend on purchased goods, services, and capital goods adopt science-based targets (SBTs) by 2025.

After establishing a baseline starting from 2019, we have implemented various strategies, such as incorporating specific contract language to guide suppliers in setting their SBTs within a defined timeline, and providing comprehensive training to empower suppliers with the necessary knowledge and tools.

From the program’s launch through the end of 2023, Moody’s has experienced a remarkable 92% increase in spend toward suppliers who have SBTs, bringing us within six percentage points of achieving our target of 60% by 2025. Click here to read the full case study*
